Every person entering Thailand needs a TDAC — and yes, that includes your 6-month-old baby. There is no age exemption. This guide covers exactly how to file for children, what to put in the tricky fields, and how to handle common family-specific situations.
No Exemptions for Minors
Every child, regardless of age, needs:
• Their own passport (even infants)
• Their own TDAC filing
• Their own entry stamp at immigration
Children listed on a parent's passport (for countries that still allow this) may face issues — Thailand immigration requires individual passports.
What to Put in Each Field
Most TDAC fields are straightforward for children, but a few cause confusion:
Name Fields
Enter the child's name exactly as printed on the MRZ line of their passport. For babies who have a passport with only a first name, enter the first name and leave the middle name field blank. If the child's surname differs from the parent's, use the child's passport surname.
Occupation Field
This is the field that trips up most parents. Here is what to enter:
| Child's Age | What to Enter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 years (infants) | Leave blank or enter 'None' | Some forms require a value — use 'None' |
| 3–5 years (pre-school) | 'None' or 'Child' | Not enrolled in school yet |
| 6–17 years (school-age) | 'Student' | The standard answer for all school-age minors |
| 18+ (adult children) | Their actual occupation or 'Student' | Filed as a regular adult |
Accommodation Address
Use the same address for all family members if you are all staying together. If the child is staying at a different address (e.g., with grandparents while parents stay at a hotel), use the child's actual accommodation address.
Purpose of Visit
Select Tourism for all children traveling with their family on holiday. Even if your child will attend a day camp, cooking class, or activity program, Tourism is correct.
Filing for Multiple Children
On the official government portal, each child's TDAC must be filed as a separate submission. There is no family or group filing option. Each submission produces its own QR code.
Through TDAC.info, you can file for up to 6 travelers (adults and children combined) in a single form. You enter each traveler's passport details, and we generate individual QR codes for everyone. This saves significant time for families.
At the Immigration Counter
When you arrive in Thailand with children:
- Queue together: Families can approach the immigration counter together. You do not need to split up.
- Show each QR code: The officer will scan each family member's QR code individually. Have all QR codes accessible on your phone (save them in a folder or print them on one sheet).
- Each child gets a stamp: Every passport — including babies — receives an entry stamp with the permitted stay duration.
- Carry birth certificates: If a child's surname differs from the accompanying adult, carry a copy of the birth certificate or custody documents. Officers occasionally ask about the relationship.
Common Family Situations
Solo Parent Traveling with Child
If one parent is traveling alone with a child, Thailand immigration may ask about the other parent. While not strictly required, carrying a consent letter from the non-traveling parent (signed and notarized) can prevent delays. This is especially important if the child's surname differs from the traveling parent's.
Grandparents or Non-Parents Traveling with a Child
If a child is traveling with grandparents, relatives, or non-parents, carry: a notarized consent letter from both parents, a copy of the child's birth certificate, and photocopies of the parents' passports or IDs. Immigration officers may ask about the relationship.
Newborns Without a Passport Yet
A child cannot enter Thailand without their own passport. If your baby does not have a passport yet, you must apply for one before traveling. Emergency or expedited passport services are available in most countries. Do not assume you can add a baby to your own passport — Thailand does not accept this.
