Thailand Visa Requirements Explained

Thailand has three main entry categories for foreign visitors. Your nationality determines which one applies to you.

Visa Exemption (60 Days)

Citizens of 93 countries — including the USA, UK, EU, Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea — can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. This was permanently extended from 30 days in late 2024. You can extend once at a Thai Immigration office for an additional 30 days (1,900 THB), giving a maximum stay of 90 days.

Visa on Arrival (15 Days)

Citizens of 19 countries — including India, China, and several CIS nations — can get a Visa on Arrival at Thai airports and land borders. The cost is 2,000 THB in cash. You must have a return ticket within 15 days, a passport photo, and proof of accommodation. The 15-day stay cannot be extended.

Visa Required (Apply Before Travel)

Citizens of countries not on the visa-exempt or VOA lists must apply for a Thai visa at an embassy or consulate before traveling. The most common option is the Tourist Visa (TR), which costs approximately 1,000 THB and allows 60 days, extendable by 30 days in Thailand.

Common Visa Questions

Do I need a visa for Thailand if I'm from the USA?
No. US citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days. You only need a valid passport (6+ months validity) and a completed TDAC. You can extend your stay by 30 days at a Thai Immigration office.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Indian citizens can get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Thai airports for stays up to 15 days. The cost is 2,000 THB in cash. For longer stays, apply for a Tourist Visa at a Thai embassy before traveling.
Is the TDAC the same as a visa?
No. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is a mandatory digital entry form — separate from a visa. All foreign travelers must complete the TDAC before arrival, regardless of their visa status. The TDAC is free on the official government website.
How long can I stay in Thailand without a visa in 2026?
It depends on your nationality. Most Western countries get 60 days visa-free. South Korea gets 90 days. India and China get 15 days via Visa on Arrival. Check the tool above for your specific country.
Can I extend my visa-free stay in Thailand?
Yes. Visa-exempt travelers can extend once for 30 days by visiting a Thai Immigration office and paying 1,900 THB. This gives a maximum stay of 90 days. Visa on Arrival (15 days) cannot be extended.
What is the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)?
The DTV is a 5-year multiple-entry visa for remote workers, digital nomads, and 'soft power' participants (Muay Thai, cooking courses, etc.). Each entry allows 180 days, extendable by 180 days. Cost: 10,000 THB.

Don't Forget Your TDAC

Regardless of your visa status, every foreign traveler must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival. The TDAC is completely free on the official government website. You'll receive a QR code to show at immigration.
