Malaysians in Thailand 2026:30 Days, TDAC & bin/binti Names

Visa rules, TDAC arrival card, customs, currency, vaccines and embassy contacts for Malaysian travellers heading to Thailand in 2026.

Visa Status: Visa Exempt (30 Days)

Entry Requirements

If you hold a passport from Malaysia, you must submit a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before entering the Kingdom of Thailand. The TDAC replaced the paper-based TM6 form and is now required for all international arrivals — regardless of your visa status or purpose of travel.

As a Malaysian citizen, you are eligible for visa exempt (30 days) entry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. The TDAC collects your personal details, travel information, and accommodation address in Thailand.

⚠️ Common Issue for Malaysian Passport Holders

Bin/binti in names — this is the most common reason for TDAC rejections from Malaysian travelers. Our system automatically detects and corrects these issues before submission, ensuring your arrival card is accepted without delays at immigration.

How to Apply

  1. 1Have your Malaysia passport ready with at least 6 months validity from your planned entry date.
  2. 2Complete the online form on TDAC.info with your personal details, travel itinerary, and accommodation address in Thailand.
  3. 3Our team reviews your submission for errors and you receive your approved QR code via email before your departure.
  4. 4Present your QR code at Thai immigration upon arrival — no paper forms needed, skip the queues.

Visa Status

Malaysian citizens: Visa Exempt (30 Days). No visa application required for tourist stays within the allowed period.

Visa Duration for Malaysian Citizens

Malaysian passport holders can stay in Thailand for 30 days from 15 Sep 2026 under the current visa exemption. Extensions are available at local Immigration offices.

Flights to Thailand from Malaysia

  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL) → Bangkok (direct)
  • Penang (PEN) → Bangkok

Common TDAC Mistakes by Malaysian Travelers

  • Bin/Binti in names must match passport exactly
  • Malaysian passport numbers: 1 letter + 8 digits
  • MyKad number is NOT needed on TDAC
Announced 17 August 2026 - phased rollout, not yet live

Auto Gates at Suvarnabhumi: Malaysia Is on the Announced List

Thailand's Immigration Bureau approved in principle on 17 August 2026 that Malaysia passports will be added to the automated arrival gates at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, with the change phased in ahead of the November-April high season. It is not fully live yet: until the signage at your terminal says otherwise, treat the manned counter as your default.

What has to be true before a gate will take you

  • At least two previous entries to Thailand. The gate matches a live face scan against biometrics already on file, so first-time visitors still clear immigration at a manned counter.
  • A renewed passport resets it. New passport, new biometric capture - the first arrival after a renewal goes back through the counter.
  • The arrival card is still mandatory. Auto gates do not replace the Thailand Digital Arrival Card. The gate reads your passport chip and looks up the TDAC filed under that passport number.
  • Any mismatch sends you to the manual queue. A name spelling, passport number or date of birth that does not match the filed TDAC will not clear the gate.

The fast lane is only as fast as the arrival card behind it: the details on your TDAC have to match the passport in your hand, character for character.

The 90-Second Version

Malaysians are Thailand's second-largest source market — weekend trips to Bangkok and Hat Yai, road trips across the southern border, and Phuket and Krabi beaches — with non-stops from Kuala Lumpur and Penang of under two hours. Visa-free days for Malaysian passports: 30 days, tourism and short business visits. Flight time: about 2 hours non-stop from Malaysia. Where you land: Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Bangkok.

What Immigration Checks on Malaysian Passports

  • Land borders. Malaysians crossing at Sadao, Padang Besar or Sungai Kolok need the TDAC just as at the airport; file it before reaching the checkpoint, where mobile signal can be poor.
  • Return ticket. Rarely questioned for Malaysians on short trips; keep it for longer stays.
  • Passport validity. Six months from entry; Malaysian passports are five-year documents, so check the date.

Your Name on the TDAC

Malaysian passports print the name as on the MyKad, and the MRZ keeps it: Malay names with bin/binti appear as AHMAD<BIN<ISMAIL in one segment, Chinese names family-name-first (TAN<<AH<KOW), and Indian names with a/l or a/p as A<L / A<P. Copy exactly the split the MRZ shows onto the TDAC; for bin/binti names that usually means the whole name in one field. The passport number is one letter followed by eight digits.

Staying Longer Than 30 days

One 30-day extension is available at any Immigration office for 1,900 THB; the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the consulates in Penang and Kota Bharu issue Tourist Visas for longer stays.

Practical Notes for Malaysian Travellers

  • Payments. Malaysian Visa and Mastercard cards work widely; DuitNow QR cross-border payment with Thai QR is accepted at many merchants. Every Thai ATM charges a flat 220 THB per withdrawal.
  • Halal. Halal food is easy in Bangkok (Sukhumvit Soi 3–5, Pratunam) and throughout the south.
  • Time zone. Thailand is one hour behind Malaysia.
  • Help in Thailand. The Malaysian Embassy is on Sathorn Road in Bangkok, with a consulate-general in Songkhla.
