Romanians in Thailand 2026:30 Days, TDAC & Ș/Ț in Names

Visa rules, TDAC arrival card, customs, currency, vaccines and embassy contacts for Romanian travellers heading to Thailand in 2026.

Visa Status: Visa Exempt (30 Days)

Entry Requirements

If you hold a passport from Romania, you must submit a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before entering the Kingdom of Thailand. The TDAC replaced the paper-based TM6 form and is now required for all international arrivals — regardless of your visa status or purpose of travel.

As a Romanian citizen, you are eligible for visa exempt (30 days) entry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. The TDAC collects your personal details, travel information, and accommodation address in Thailand.

⚠️ Common Issue for Romanian Passport Holders

Special characters (Ș/Ț) — this is the most common reason for TDAC rejections from Romanian travelers. Our system automatically detects and corrects these issues before submission, ensuring your arrival card is accepted without delays at immigration.

How to Apply

  1. 1Have your Romania passport ready with at least 6 months validity from your planned entry date.
  2. 2Complete the online form on TDAC.info with your personal details, travel itinerary, and accommodation address in Thailand.
  3. 3Our team reviews your submission for errors and you receive your approved QR code via email before your departure.
  4. 4Present your QR code at Thai immigration upon arrival — no paper forms needed, skip the queues.

Visa Status

Romanian citizens: Visa Exempt (30 Days). No visa application required for tourist stays within the allowed period.

Visa Duration for Romanian Citizens

Romanian passport holders can stay in Thailand for 30 days from 15 Sep 2026 under the current visa exemption. Extensions are available at local Immigration offices.

Flights to Thailand from Romania

  • Bucharest (OTP) → Bangkok (via connection)

Common TDAC Mistakes by Romanian Travelers

  • Romanian characters (Ș, Ț, Ă, Î, Â) must be simplified
  • Romanian passport numbers: 8 or 9 digits
  • Carte de identitate is NOT valid
Announced 17 August 2026 - phased rollout, not yet live

Auto Gates at Suvarnabhumi: Romania Is Not on the Announced List

On 17 August 2026 Thailand approved in principle the addition of 31 more passports to the automated arrival gates at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, joining Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong. Romania is not among them, so arrival is at a manned immigration counter as before. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card remains mandatory either way and has to be filed before you travel.

The 90-Second Version

Romanians travel to Thailand for winter escapes and honeymoons; there is no non-stop from Bucharest, so Qatar, Emirates and Turkish connect in 12–14 hours. Visa-free days for Romanian passports: 30 days, tourism and short business visits. Where you land: Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Bangkok.

What Immigration Checks on Romanian Passports

  • Passport, not carte de identitate. The ID card is valid only in Europe; Thailand needs the passport with six months' validity from entry.
  • Onward ticket. Expected for open tickets.
  • First-night address. Required on the TDAC.

Your Name on the TDAC

Romanian diacritics vanish in the MRZ — Ștefan Țăranu is STEFAN TARANU, Ionuț is IONUT — and the TDAC must use that spelling. The passport number is eight or nine digits.

Staying Longer Than 30 days

One 30-day extension is available at any Immigration office for 1,900 THB; the Royal Thai Embassy in Bucharest issues Tourist Visas for longer stays.

Practical Notes for Romanian Travellers

  • Cards. Romanian Visa and Mastercard cards work widely; every Thai ATM charges a flat 220 THB per withdrawal.
  • Time zone. Thailand is five hours ahead of Romania in winter, four in summer.
  • Help in Thailand. The Romanian Embassy is in Bangkok.
