Suvarnabhumi E-Gates Open to 33 Nationalities

Update 5 November 2026. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports confirmed on 30 October 2026 that the automated passport-control gates now serve 33 countries and territories, up from two (Singapore and Hong Kong). Travellers from these 33 made up about 57% of arrivals in 2025. Since 15 October 2026 (TDAC version 2026.10.00) your TDAC confirmation email shows whether you can use the gate: ELIGIBLE or MANUAL PROCESSING. Leaving Thailand is a separate system: the departure Auto Channel at Suvarnabhumi is open to e-passport holders of all nationalities.

The Immigration Bureau commissioner said on 4 November 2026, as reported in the Thai press, that daily use of the arrival gates rose from 744 to 2,125 travellers after the soft launch on 18 September, and that 94,760 foreign travellers had used them by 31 October. He said Suvarnabhumi has 39 arrival and 67 departure gates and that Don Mueang and Phuket are planned next; arrival gates at those two airports are not yet confirmed as open.

The arrival auto gates at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) are now in use by travellers from 33 nationalities, five weeks after the Immigration Bureau approved the expansion in principle on 17 August 2026. Airport signage and traveller reports from around 20 September confirm the lanes are open; the government had said on 26 August that the service would start within a month.

Four conditions apply. You must hold one of the 33 eligible passports (Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway and most EU member states); you must be entering under the 30-day visa exemption, so visa holders still use the counters; you must have visited Thailand before, because first-time arrivals give their biometrics at a staffed counter; and you must have filed your Thailand Digital Arrival Card before landing. The United States, China, India and Taiwan are not on the list.

The rollout is phased, so an eligible passport does not guarantee an open gate on every flight. The gate reads the passport chip and matches it against the arrival record, so the details on the TDAC must match the passport exactly.
