If you are planning a trip to Thailand this autumn, the rules for visa-free entry have changed. A Royal Gazette notification published on 31 August 2026 repeals the 60-day visa exemption that 93 countries have held since July 2024, and replaces it from 15 September 2026 with a 30-day exemption for 60 countries and territories.
Three things matter for most travellers. First, the date you land decides your stay: arrive on or before 14 September and you are stamped for 60 days and keep them in full, even though the framework changes while you are in the country. Second, the extension is unchanged, so 30 days plus one 30-day extension at any Immigration office still gives you 60 days without a visa. Third, if your country came off the list, you are not automatically stuck: most keep a bilateral agreement of 90, 30 or 14 days instead.
Nothing changes about the Thailand Digital Arrival Card. It stays mandatory for every foreign arrival, on either side of 15 September.
