Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is Thailand's main international gateway and one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia. Whether it's your first time or your tenth, this guide covers everything you need to get through immigration quickly and into Bangkok with minimal hassle.
Airport Overview
Opened in 2006, Suvarnabhumi handles over 60 million passengers per year, making it one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia. The airport has a single passenger terminal with 7 concourses. International arrivals land on the lower floors (Level 2 for arrivals, Level B for rail link). The iconic design by Helmut Jahn features the world's tallest free-standing control tower and one of the largest single-building airport terminals.
Immigration & TDAC
Immigration at Suvarnabhumi can be notoriously slow during peak hours (midnightโ3 AM when many international flights land). Average wait times range from 20 minutes to over an hour. Having your Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) completed in advance is essential to speeding up the process.
TDAC Requirement
All travelers arriving in Thailand must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival. You'll need the QR code at immigration. Complete yours at tdac.info before your flight.
Have your QR code ready
Open the TDAC confirmation email on your phone before joining the queue.
Scan at e-gate or show at manual counter
E-gates are available for many passport holders. Otherwise, present your QR code and passport at the manual immigration counter.
Fingerprint & photo scan
All arrivals are fingerprinted and photographed. This takes about 10 seconds.
Collect your bags
Proceed to the baggage carousel on Level 2. Screens display belt numbers by flight.
